After a hiatus of 11 years, Lauren Hill (who demands to be addressed as Ms. Hill) is making a comeback. In a recent interview with National Public Radio’s Zoe Chace, the now 35 year old stated that she had several reasons for her lengthy departure from the industry. But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it." Ms. Hill also stated that she did not receive the amount nurturing that she needed, further commenting, “the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society...And it's important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected."
The greater of the reasons are her 5 children with longtime mate, Rohan Marley (the son of the late, great Bob Marley). Now that the youngest of the bunch is 2, Ms. Hill is comfortable enough to travel for periods of time. She contends that it is time to throw her proverbial cap back in, and she states that the excitement has back to her regarding her music.
It goes without saying, that the bar will be high in regards to any new releases from the Grammy award winning all around artist. After the critical and public acclaim of her work with the Fugees and the (now classic) Miseducation of Lauren Hill, fans will be expected nothing short of greatness. Let us just hope that the next project is not tainted with minor scandals as was the last. Let us hope that there are no songwriters, producers, etc trying to get their 15 minutes of fame by making claims to works, etc. Time will tell how long and often we will see the seemingly hermitic artist.
