In 2005, Kanye West hosted a celebrity gala at Miami Beach’s The Shore Club in which Suge Knight claims that West brought a gun that later injured him. Although the party included guests such as Jessica Alba, Eddie Murphy, the Black Eyed Peas and Paris Hilton, Knight is the only one that has stated that he saw the gun in the possession of West. West stands firm that he had neither weapon nor any connection with the shooting that left Knight with $200,000 worth of medical bills. According to reports, there were (at least) six shots fired, within the club filled with attendees, at Knight on the evening in question. Knight is requesting $1 million in damages in lieu of the incident. Should he win the case against West, Knight would divide the money between himself, a bankruptcy trustee and the IRS.
Both West and the owner of The Shore club deny any liability pertaining to the incident and the incurred injuries. West contends that he had no hand in the security team that was used the night of the gala. To date, there have been no arrests in connection to the 2005 shooting, although Knight has officially filed suit against the artist. Per Knight’s accounts, "I figured I could sit him down, man to man, and get this resolved." Yet shortly after a six hour meeting between the two, Knight commented that he was disappointed due to a lack of resolution. During the meeting, it is reported that Kanye was questioned in detail regarding the events of the night. At this point, the matter is in the hands of the legal system and time will soon tell who is (truly) behind the shooting.
