Monty Travelle Thompson, known to the music world as MontDig, is a force moving full steam ahead. By the 4th grade, MontDig was already writing and rhyming with the best of them earning his name D(amn) I(‘m) G(ood). By high school, he held his own in the Akron area while apart of the rap group, Kilatainment, alongside his good friend and fellow lyricist, Aviator J. MontDig has been featured on over 30 mixtapes sold from Texas to Ohio and has performed with: Fabolus, Trina, Luke, Freeway, Clipse, Memphis Bleek and Ray Cash. He has achieved radio play, as a completely independent artist, via Z88.1 (Akron, OH) & KISS 96.5 FM (Cleveland, OH). MontDig is an artist that has great crossover appeal while remaining true to the roots of hip-hop. He possesses an ability lost to many rappers today. He can make everyone groove with him without removing content, altering concepts, or losing his identity. ‘Dig is consistent with thought provoking, yet laid back lyrics that catch the ear, while intriguing the mind.
MontDig describes himself as a ‘trend setter” and a non “watered down artist” which I must concur are more than accurate. With each project his growth as a man and as an artist is overtly evident. His latest release, “Welcome to the Bowel Movement” sheds light upon that fact that his skills sh** on those of his peers. One would be more than hard pressed to locate another who could overshadow the talent spewing unto his mic. This artist remains hungry, dedicated, innovative and buzz worthy. He brings beyond an A-Game to all projects, be it solo, with a fellow independent artist or a notable. There is not a track that he has graced that has been subpar. He has no bad days. He is to rap what Kobe & LeBron are to basketball. MontDig has a phenomenal fan base surrounding him and it continues to grow due to the sheer cultivated talent brimming from him.
The future mogul already has a clothing line under development, feature roles on the table, music featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie ’48 Hours Till Dark’ (starring Fredro Star and DMX), collaborations with other independent artists and yet another mixtape (MontDig: The Freestyle) slated for release this summer. With a career at such a pace as this, it is just a matter of time before he is collaborating with a fellow evolving innovator, Jay-Z.
Within the near future I can guarantee that his independent status will be a matter of history.
