In 2006, while the Winter Olympics were under way, Eva Green was being named as the next ‘Bond Girl’ and Italy’s Andrea Bargnani was taken as the 1rst pick in the NBA Draft by Toronto, Al Triggs was transforming into Princinnati. From humble beginnings, the former military “brat” and chorus boy was pulling from recently familial tragedies to compose his first works. A year after that, Princinnati began his own label entitled, 2nd to None Music Group (2MG). From there, it has been full steam ahead for the self-made up and coming mogul. In 2008, he released the single, “Fresh to Death” followed by the 2009 releases, “Brown skin” and “Eating Ain’t Cheating”.
2009 proved to be quite the banner year for the artist. He claimed first place in the Louisville leg of the Russ Bus Tour, capturing 5,000 votes within one week. He also recorded the intro for a popular Radio One personality within the Greater Cincinnati area by the name of N.O.C. (101.1 WIZfm). Princinnati has opened for Rick Ross and Bobby Valentino, performed at the Midwest Black Family Reunion and various local events. Critics attempts to damper the rising success of the independent artist upon his debuting the single “Eating Ain’t Cheating” due to the theme of the track. Princinnati handled the minor controversy with a savvy that evades many artists in our popular culture today. He merely explained that the song is in no way degrading to women, and speaks to every individual receiving their desired satisfaction. He has been quoted as citing Usher’s “Lil Freak” and its similar content and slightly more graphic lyrics.
This summer is proving to be the busiest yet for the artist and his label. On June 8, he will be auditioning for BET’s 106 & Park’s Wild Out Wednesday segment, and on the 22nd, his “introductory” mix tape, ‘Royalty Volume One’, will be released. According to the artist, this mix tape can be summed up in three words: addictive, charismatic and timeless, which is a compelling complement to his own style which has been dubbed, “versatile”. Fellow label mates, Monty Benjamin and The Freshmen, will be performing at the 2010 Midwest Black Family Reunion, while Princinnati will be hitting the stage at the Indy Black Expo. Mr. Triggs has also let it be known that a second mix tape is currently in the making and will be more diverse than the first. Word has it that his own vocals will be utilized on a forth coming project. That track will most definitely be homage of his earlier years in which he sang in a local men’s chorus.
